Tony Parker and the Spurs Gear Up to Repeat

Tony Parker and the Spurs Gear Up to Repeat

After winning the 2014 NBA Championship and dethroning the Miami Heat, Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs looks to defend their title as the 2014-2015 NBA season gets underway. Coming off of his fourth NBA Championship with the Spurs, Parker continues to anchor the San Antonio dynasty that seems to be never-ending and hopes to lead the team to another lengthy postseason run.

After reaching the playoffs for 17 consecutive seasons, falling just short of the title in Game 7 during 2013, and finally seeking their revenge in a 2014 NBA Finals sweep for the franchise’s fifth Larry O’Brien Trophy, the San Antonio Spurs are one of the most consistent teams in the league and the biggest threat in 2014. In addition to the Spurs’ Big Three with Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, and Manu Ginobili, the rest of the San Antonio roster boasts veterans with all around talent and experience in the postseason. To add to the San Antonio Spurs domineering lineup and strong depth chart, the team has a synergy that has meshed well and produced big results for years. While many NBA teams made huge changes in the offseason, such as the relocation of LeBron James to Cleveland, the Spurs chose not to mess with a good thing and only added to their talent with first round 2014 NBA Draft pick, Kyle Anderson. As long as the San Antonio Spurs can remain healthy throughout the season, San Antonio will be favorites to win the West and make their third consecutive appearances at the NBA Finals. Under the lead of Greg Popovich and newly hired assistant coach Becky Hammon, former WNBA player, the San Antonio Spurs are in for another memorable year in the upcoming season.

As a franchise that has just about achieved it all, the Spurs have yet to repeat with back-to-back championships. A sixth NBA title for the Spurs would tie the franchise with the Bulls, put Tim Duncan in the Michael Jordan realm past Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson, and make the perfect send-off for Manu Ginolibi. As San Antonio embarks on its journey to make history with the start of the 2014 season, the Spurs are serious contenders as the top dog in the NBA until someone can find a way to knock them off.
