Ben Roethlisberger Continues to Dominate in Week 9

fa-BigBenInFocusWith nine weeks in the books, the NFL playoff push is starting to heat up quickly. At this point in the season, teams have established their identity and know what it takes to make a run for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Week 9 of the NFL season was highlighted by blowouts, goal line stands, and yet another big performance from the seemingly unstoppable Big Ben.

A good old southern match-up kicked off the weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina where the New Orleans Saints demolished the Panthers 28-10 courtesy of two touchdowns from Mark Ingram, who is quickly becoming one of the hottest backs in the league. Things wouldn’t get any better for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9, as they had to take on the surging Arizona Cardinals without their star quarterback Tony Romo. Carson Palmer threw for three touchdowns as Arizona defeated Dallas 28-17. Despite losing quarterback Nick Foles to an injury early in the game, the Philadelphia Eagles rallied behind backup Mark Sanchez to beat Arian Foster and Texans in Houston by 10 points. After a show stopping performance from Colt McCoy, Robert Griffin III made his return to the field as the Washington Redskins faced the Minnesota Vikings. However, it was rookie Teddy Bridgewater that would be the quarterback to watch in this game, as he posted 268 passing yards to lead the Vikings to a victory over the Skins. Austin Davis and the St. Louis Rams keep finding a way to win games this season. In a divisional match-up against the San Francisco 49ers, the Rams held on to win the game from a last second goal line stand that resulted in a Colin Kaepernick fumble on what could have been the game winning touchdown. Out west, the Seattle Seahawks won their second consecutive game as they look to defend their crown and dropped the hopeless Raiders to 0-8 on the season.

FA-bradyRecordIn a match-up featuring two of the season’s breakout quarterback stars, Ryan Tannehill and his three touchdowns crushed the San Diego Chargers as the Miami Dolphins won their third game in a row, this one by a massive count of 37-0. Don’t look now, but the Cleveland Browns have one of the best records in the AFC. The Browns won their fourth game in the last five contests this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 22-17. Despite an outstanding 129 receiving yards from the newly acquired Percy Harvin, it wouldn’t be quite enough for Gang Green, as the New York Jets dropped a match-up to the Kansas City Chiefs for their eighth consecutive loss. Although a young offensive core of Blake Bortles, Denard Robinson, and Allen Hurns made big strides for the Jacksonville Jaguars this week, the Jags still dropped the game against the Cincinnati Bengals by the score of 33-23. The 16th rendition of the legendary Brady versus Manning match-up was a bit lopsided. Peyton Manning threw for over 400 yards for the Denver Broncos, but Tom Brady’s four touchdown passes to become the fifth all-time in NFL passing yards and another monster performance from Rob Gronkowski secured a 43-21 win for the New England Patriots. Ben Roethlisberger is taking no prisoners in Pittsburgh as he dominates the field week after week. The Pro Bowl quarterback became the first player since 1961 to throw six or more touchdown passes in back-to-back games as the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Baltimore Ravens 43-23. To close out the weekend in a Monday Night showdown between two of the game’s most talented quarterbacks, the Indianapolis Colts beat down the New York Giants 40-24 behind a monster performance from Andrew Luck.

As the competition begins to get closer, Week 10 gifts some of the best games of the season to NFL fans. A couple of recent Super Bowl champions will square off as the Giants visit Seattle and two red hot teams meet as the Dolphins go up against the Lions.
